The Real Meaning of Mind and Body Unity

We have physical and spiritual essence. Our mind has two parts: Physical Mind and Spiritual Mind. Our mind functions because of the give and take of these spiritual and physical counterparts. But can you make a distinction between your 'spiritual mind' and your 'earthly-physical mind'? They are quiet different:

One of our minds is external and centered on our physical self. It has no sense for God, so it does not know the truth, thus it observes externally and criticizes; brings confusion, anxiety, doubts and fears. It leads the person to be more self-centered and materialistic. Our evil mind is acive when this external-physical mind is subject.

The other mind is internal and always centered on God. It knows every truth so it never doubts, is never confused and never worries, but it is always centered on love. It leads the person to be more loving and spiritual. Our Original Mind is acctive when this internal-spiritual mind is subject. Once you know that it is quiet easy for to distinguish which one is subject at any particular moment.

The Divine Principle explains that the real essence of Mind and Body unity is to restore the dominion of the Spiritual Mind over the Physical Mind. Because of the Fall we are dominated by our Physical Mind, thus staying under the dominion of evil spirits:

"As long as our spirit mind and physical mind are under the bondage of Satan, the functioning entity they form through their give and take action is called the evil mind. The evil mind continually drives people to do evil." DP

The Unification Thought gives a chart of how the dominion of our spirit was gradually being restored throughout the long process of restoration. With each providential age the spirit mind got in a bit higher position, gradually restoring it's position as a subject. The time is come when we can free our spirit mind and liberate our Original Nature, thus becoming actual Temples of God. See Charts

Recognize the difference

Yet, to achieve that, first we have to recognize the difference between these two minds in our own self. I will give you here few simple hints. For example; Why the spiritual mind never doubts; it is never nervous, confused or self-centered? Because it knows? It has the sensibility towards God and the spirit world, so it can obtain any information. It feels the hearts of others, so it will never try to hurt them.

On the other side, our physical mind is quite ignorant. It is created to care for the self preservation, so our spirit is not developed to subdue it, it will naturally lead us to be self centered. It has not choice but to observe externally without sensing the heart and motivation of the people around. So it often leads to misinterpretations and fear. That fear can easily trigger intrigues, gossiping, antagonism and criticism. That's why, the history resulting from the physical mind (Cain-type) attitude inevitably led to wars, corruption and exploitation.

What is the biggest difference between these two minds? Physical mind can never feel God the spirit world, only rationalize about them; while our spiritual mind is constantly connected with them. Now you can understand why physical mind became the origin of all disbelieve, materialism, gossiping, negativity, struggles and wars. So please Liberate your Spiritual Mind, that's your only way to God.

Why it is so? The Physical Mind is not only in our brain, but the combined memory of all our cells. If the spirit has sensitivity to feel God and the spirit world, the Physical Mind can never connect to them no matter how much it tries. It's not created for that. It's the Spiritual Mind that constantly feels God and knows everything from the spirit world.

At moments when your spiritual mind is subject becomes easy to love others and feel deepest faith. This is the most natural state of our spirit. It happens without any effort. But because of the fall, our spiritual mind is constantly being subjugated under the lies and manipulations of our external logic of the brain (our physical mind), which objects any of his attempts to guide us.

Physical Mind Always Reverses God's Principles

First it is  important to learn to distinguish between the spiritual mind and the physical mind.
Most of the thinking people do is from the physical mind, so it naturally leads them to humanism: Reversal of all God's principles. Same like Physical mind reverses dominion over spiritual mind, it will lead them to put object over subject, horizontal over vertical, external and material things over internal and spiritual...

(1) Php.M. cannot see God's view - it cannot feel God's Heart.
(2) Ph.M. created to be Object to the Sp.M (Is out of it's proper position)
(3) Ph.M constantly reverses dominion over the Sp.M
(4) Ph.M. multiplies evil, propagating Satan's philosophy 

So the more people were thinking how to solve things, the more they developed the Humanistic (Cain-type) philosophy in the history, But to solve problems you have to stop thinking with your brain, relax and liberate yourself from all these external problems.

How to Put Your Spiritual Mind Subject

Once you relax your physical mind, your spiritual mind can become subject in this state you can easily visualize. Once you achieve it you will realize how sharp, awake and precise your mind is this is your spiritual mind this is your true self it is always connected to God.

For example, Rev. Moon suggests, to think of the principle figures and live yourself to fall asleep. When you wake up your spiritual sensitivity will be very strong. True Mother, Hak Ja Han, also in 1993 stressed how important is to develop our spiritual sensitivity quickly, not to be misled by evil spirits.

After while this state will become habit, so you can naturally put your spiritual mind on top, each time you want. You will discover that your heart will open to feel the hearts of the other people and God's heart about everything. This is the reason I can always perceive what kind of spirit world is around. I can sense the moment when people's mind shifts and allows evil spirit world to work through them.

Our spirit mind is wonderful. It has amazing power. It knows everything. As True Father said, we should learn to talk to our inner mind and ask things we want to know or solve. There is no information unknown to our own inner self.

Your Spirit Mind Automatically Tunes to God's Will

Question: Sometimes when I'm praying about something very serious or that I'm concerned about I feel that God let's me see exactly his viewpoint on that problem. Sometime I pray about a person (once i was praying for someone on the cosmic level and two days later there was news about her on the TV). But still I never thought about it in the way you are explaining right now…

Answer: When you spiritual mind is subject you automatically sense what God wants you to pray for. So you pray about it and soon you discover that it happened on global scale. That's because you tune and sense the providential things before they happen. Your spiritual mind automatically tunes to this which the whole good spirit world is praying and working for. So it's not just our prayer that made it happen, but that all good spiritual forces united efforts to bring it fulfilled. That's why when people unite their mind and body (putting their spiritual mind as subject) automatically the whole humanity will live as one united harmonious family where everyone will naturally follow God's will, since our spiritual mind always know it and aligns with it.

Comment: Yes. I absolutely believe that we should talk to our inner mind. I find it has many answers, but I never thought about it as being subject (not in the way you are explaining).

Spirit mind works based on images

Spirit mind works based on images. Each word immediately creates spiritual image and the heart automatically responds sensing if the word had good or bad energy. Thus spirit mind automatically separates good from evil. I sense the spiritual energy behind each word or expression, thus when I write my articles automatically create common base and open the original mind of the people who read. This is the reason my internet spiritual children start having the spiritual sense of being liberated, elevated and suddenly loving all people and all things more than before, because the words elevate their spiritual minds. In this way the word brings them resurrection.

I'm always sensitive to the spiritual powers around. Negative articles about us use a lot of negative words. They open the evil mind of the reader and he gets obsessed by evil spiritual world. In this state even a good person's heart gets full of fear, anger and hate. But I take these articles and change the negative words with once that are spiritually bright and carry good bright emotions. Than it becomes a channel for the good spirit world to fill their hearts instead.

Our physical mind cannot recognize what's good and evil, and in fact it always misleads us to accept the evil as good. Example: Humanists think they are doing the highest good, when in fact they are destroying their children spiritually.

Comment: Gosh. I've not seen it clearly put like that. I mean it is quite mind opening…

The Real Meaning of Mind and Body Unity

What I explained is written in the first pages of Divine Principle. If you read carefully, Mind and Body unity is in fact Spiritual mind and Physical mind unity. Because of the Fall our physical mind became subject and our spiritual mind got imprisoned, incapable to express and grow. Thus we lost our spiritual sensitivity to God and the truth. Divine Principle is very clear; Unless we develop our spiritual sensitivity to God here on earth there is no way we can feel and connect to God in the spirit world. In our age, the way to achieve that is open.

Anyway, try what I told you... and we talk again. Relax completely when praying and visualize what you're saying. Report in the morning and before sleeping, visualizing the results you want and sincerely talking to God. Always go to asleep with principle thoughts and after resolving any conflicts of the day (at list visualize embracing, forgiving, resolving if there was something wrong during the day). Remember, your original mind cannot work when you are anxious, confused, nervous, worrying. That's a common base with evil spirit world, because it is energy with heavy, dark frequency. QUESTION:
Why was the fall of man so devastating to man's spirit? Why would the fall reverse the subject-object relationship between man's physical and spiritual entities?
ANSWER:
Good question. The fall was premature sexual relationship. Their spirit was not yet matured to be subject. Thus physical love on the level of physical mind gave the birth to physical mind descendants. Stuck under the physical mind, the spirit mind of the consequent generations could only mature to the providential level of the age.

The biggest problem was that physical mind is ignorant of God and the universal laws. Humanity was left without connection to God. God could barely find anyone more developed spiritually to give at list a bit of the information helpful for the growth of our spirit. Took thousands and thousands of year to gradually get out of this ignorance.

Since such spiritual people got only parts of the truth, different religions appeared. Often blocking each other's way towards restoring God's ideal. This was so painful for God. Religion was never the purpose. Religions were to help our spirit grow until we reach the real connection with God. Only now, the Divine Principle explains everything.

Why Physical Mind Leads to Humanism

Our spiritual mind never searches for joy in a selfish way and without God. But our physical mind (the brain) is not created to be able to connect to God, so it cannot understand joy with God even if it kills itself trying. Physical mind is created to care for self survival (the individual goal) so automatically it worries about everything and mislead us to be self-centered even when thinking to live for God. But the thing is, physical mind is not created to be the Subject. So it's the spiritual mind's weakness and immaturity that allows physical mind to lead us. The wickeder ones spiritual mind the more external and humanistic is the person. No matter how good from humanistic perspective he is, he will always be a channel for evil spiritual world, he will always be misled by his physical mind to reverse dominion on many levels, because he will never be able to see and follow God's viewpoint when led by his physical mind.

"The thought-power and willpower are generated in the mind. Numerous mind boggling examples of the immensity and trenchancy of these mental powers are available in the history of mankind."

Is the source of our thoughts physical or spiritual? The Unification Thought explains that we have internal intellect and external intellect. That is because we have not only physical mind (brain), but also spiritual mind. According to The Principle intellect, emotions and will are functions of the spiritual mind. Of course our physical brain is like a radio receiver. It can catch the thoughts coming from the spiritual mind.

Our brain and our spirit mind are in constant give and take. The brain can also reason and create logical connections, but on much more limited level. These, sometimes misleading, limitations of our physical mind are well studied in psychology. They are used by manipulative people to distort our perception of reality.

The internal struggle of thoughts

In fact, within ourselves there is a constant struggle between the thoughts coming from the spiritual mind and those from the physical brain. Here is a simple example: When we wake up in the morning, there are two contradicting thoughts: Our spiritual mind says, "Get up", but the physical mind immediately contradicts, "I want to sleep more". That is because our spirit does not need to sleep, but the physical mind needs.

It's important to understand this internal war. The physical mind will start bringing numerous excuses for it's cause until it overcomes the thoughts driving from the spiritual mind. Thus, the physical mind constantly subjugates and manipulates the spirit mind in this way. We all have one internal manipulator that controls us - our physical brain. As a result, mind and body can never be united. We are subjugated by our physical desires and needs.

The more one develops his spirit, the more he can sense this internal conflict, because his spirit mind gets stronger. When our spirit mind matures enough, it can naturally lead and dominate our physical mind constantly. But that can happen only if the person is mature enough not to believe and follow the reasoning of the physical mind. This is mostly about overcoming the ignorance.

Brain, Thoughts and Spiritual Influence

That's why Rev. Moon explains that 80% of our thoughts are coming from the spiritual world. In the book 'A Wanderer in the Spirit Lands', Franchezzo explains how the spirits have numerous ways to influence people on earth.

The physical mind can also catch thoughts from other spirits and can be easily manipulated by them, because of it's ignorance of the source. People who are dominated by the physical mind, thus, are unknowingly objects manipulated by all kind of low spirits. In this way, Humanistic (external, materialistic) people have stronger fallen nature and their actions end up in the direction of evil, even when they tend to do good.

Physical mind, Relativism and Humanism

Physical mind is the origin of today's moral relativism. This is because the brain itself cannot distinguish the origin of the thoughts. It puts them all on the same level. This environment of relativism, where everything is equally true, is a fruitful ground for low spiritual influence. In fact, Humanism and the four fallen natures originate from the physical mind.

Basic law of the Principle is, that when Physical mind is subject over the Spirit mind, automatically evil spirit world can work freely. Thus they are channels for Satan's work. Inevitably all the reasoning of the physical mind will end up in the direction of The Humanistic Thought - Cain Type Philosophy.

The very same way our physical mind does not see God's viewpoint and reverses dominion over the spiritual mind, humanistic thought aims to discredit any thought or philosophy sparked by the spiritual mind. So the historic struggle between the Cain-type and Able-type philosophies was inevitable.

We perform better when our brain is less active

When we reduce the functions of our brain our spiritual mind is free to take over. This is the principle reason why we perform better when we calm down our brain activities.  Relaxing our brain allows our spiritual mind to be liberated and unleash our unlimited spiritual potential.

Our brain reasons externally, so it tends to worry, doubt, misunderstand, disbelieve and mislead us into state of anxiety, depression and conflicts. Our spirit mind, on the other side knows precisely what to do; it never worries, never get depressed, never looses faith. Our spiritual mind is always in peace and brings peace in the relationship with others.

Ignorance of the Internal and External Thoughts

Our external (brain) reasoning is very different from the internal (spiritual) way of reasoning. Knowing their basic nature and different origins we can easily distinguish between them. To liberate our Original good nature we have to learn to recognize and follow the thoughts of our spirit mind.

If we are in ignorance, our brain (physical, external, material, animal-like mind) will always find reasons to disregard the logic of our inner spirit self. Thus our brain constantly denies God's guidance and that of our own conscience.

Brain has no senses towards God and the spirit world. That's why people dominated by their physical mind tend to deny their existence. Spirit mind is in constant connection with them, so it will never lead you to atheism, materialism or humanism (relativism). 

As Divine Principle explains, the restoration is mainly about coming out of this state of ignorance. Now we understand why, overcoming this ignorance of how our brain tricks us, can help us unite our mind and body, and reach perfection.

The Silva Method and the liberation of our spiritual potential

In other words, our spirit self can grow only when our mind is subject over the body. The body is governed by the physical mind while our spirit is governed by our spiritual mind. Since our spirit mind is constantly connected to God and the spiritual reality, it naturally leads us in the right direction when it is in the position of a subject over the physical mind.

This technique is used in sports psychology and was further developed by Jose Silva, the founder of Silva Method of dynamic mental meditation. Because of the Fall however, human spiritual mind became underdeveloped and governed by the physical mind. This completely blocked the way for our spiritual development. Once the brain dominated the spirit with it's external reasoning, the spirit mind became imprisoned; physical desired dominated our physical desires. This is the principle reason behind all selfishness, immaturity, distrust, corruption and wars in human history.

Let me explain: The physical mind is responsible for self-preservation and the fulfillment of the physical needs for survival. Thus it can lead us only to selfishness and animal like behavior. Thus the brain constantly leads us into worries and restlessness. Not being able to sense the hearts of others, our brain leads us in constant mutual struggles and distrust.

Once this proper relationship of subject and object is being reversed we cannot function properly as human beings. Furthermore, this brings us into a state of total ignorance of God and the existence of the spiritual reality. Simply said, physical mind has no senses to relate to them and recognize them.

Of course physical mind can reason about God, but that reasoning will only result in another selfish reasoning and practice. This is the reason why religions too could turn against God by bringing more wars, selfishness and distrust, instead of a world of love and harmony.

Consequently, a world of true, unselfish love, will never appear if the war between our mind and body is not resolved. The first step in winning ending this war is to recognize how our brain is fulling us and come to liberate our spiritual mind.

Visualization is natural for our spirit mind

Once our spiritual mind is set as a subject our brain can relax and function properly. Thus, even our physical mind finds liberation when the correct order is restored. This is precisely what the meditation technique of the Silva Method is teaching us to achieve by entering in the 'alphy' state. In this state we can visualize and sense things without the brain intervention and rational disturbance.

The technique aims to reach and sustain a higher state of mental functioning, called alpha state, where brainwave frequency is greatly reduced. According to Silva, once the mind is set in relaxed visualization, a person can view distant objects or locations and connect with higher intelligence for guidance, a person can heal himself or others and resolve successfully any conflict. This is achieved through visualization, because it is natural for our spirit mind to immediately see and connect to whatever we think about.

This is only natural, since in that state our spirit mind is subject and it naturally knows all solutions and is able to sense and influence things spiritually. Our spirit mind immediately visualizes every word or idea. And that's not all; it can sense spiritually the reality of the person or situation we think about.

In this state, with our spirit as a subject, we are unable to do evil. Our evil, selfish intentions are product of our physical mind and are possible only when physical mind dominates.Once people develop their spiritual mind naturally all evil in this world will disappear.

Psychology tried to understand how the mind works. Psychology however made one cardinal mistake of limiting it's studies to the physical mind only. Thus psychological studies could mostly observe the fallen nature and could not distinguish what is our true original state.

Religion on the other side was trying to research the mind through spiritual experiences and revelations. Unification Psychology, based on the Unification Thought, uses the structure of the 'Four Position Foundation' to understand the functions of the mind in a more unified way; spiritually and scientifically. As Dr. Moon explains,

"The Kingdom of God, according to the Bible, is in your mind... It is not the mind that has elements of death from the fallen world, but the mind that has waves of the grace of life. This is the mind that can extend the grace of life to the world by removing the elements of death." Sun Myung Moon

To understand why the human mind can tune to vibrate, either with the waves of death or with the light of God, we have to first understand the dual structure of the mind.

The Dual Structure of the Mind

As Unification Thought states, "We may say that a certain individual's mind has a different kind of "structure." ...it is possible to understand the invisible mind by speaking of it as if it were a structured thing." UT p.27

The human mind has a dual structure. It consists of Spiritual and Physical parts relating to each other as subject and object partners. We may call them respectively, spirit mind and physical mind. When they become one through give and take action with the Heart as their center, they form a united functioning entity. This united entity is the human mind.

The physical mind corresponds to the brain and the human instincts.  It is mainly concerned with our individual survival; food, sleep and sex. The physical mind is temporal and limited. We may compare it with a radio receiver, which perceives the functions of the spiritual mind; intellect, emotion and will. Thus, even though our physical mind is not much different than that of an animal, we human beings are reasoning, feeling and acting on a completely new and higher level because of the constant give and take action with the spiritual mind.

When man's spiritual mind (Sungsang) and physical mind (Hyungsang) engage in give-and-receive action centering on Heart, they form a "harmonized body," or "union." Through this process, four positions come to be established, namely, the center (i.e., Heart), the subject (Spiritual Mind), the object (Physical Mind), and their harmonized union (The Human Mind). The structure made up of these four positions is called the "four-position base."

This normal functioning of the mind is only possible when the spiritual mind is in subject position over the limited (enamel-like) physical mind. The reverse state is very dysfunctional and leads to selfish and self-destructive behavior. Not only that our spiritual capacity will be imprisoned and blocked by the limitations of the physical mind, but in this reverse state the brain is incapable to recognize the source of any spiritual influence and easily creates give and take action with low spirits, whose life was also dominated by low physical and selfish needs and strives. This inner reversal is the main cause of all the evil, suffering and misuse in human history.

Spiritual Mind
Our spirit self consists of the dual characteristics of the spirit mind (subject partner) and spirit body (object partner). The spirit mind is the center of the spirit self, and it is where God dwells. The spirit mind has the main functions of intellect, emotion and will centered on the impulse of the heart. They are created to directly perceive and respond to God's intellect, emotion and will. In addition, our spirit mind is sensitive to the true feelings, joy and pain of the people around us. Thus it is incapable to lead us towards any evil and selfish acts.

When the physical mind obeys the spirit mind and the physical self acts according to the good purpose of the spirit mind, the physical self receives living spirit elements from the spirit self. In this state, the person is spiritually and psychologically well. When the physical mind subjugates the spirit mind, this reversal of dominion results in numerous spiritual and psychological dysfunctions.

Truth illuminates the innermost desires of the spirit mind. A person must first comprehend his spirit mind's deepest desire through the truth and then put this knowledge into action to fulfill his responsibility. Only then do the living spirit elements and vitality elements reciprocate within him, enabling him to progress toward goodness.

This implies that one's spirit mind always knows right from wrong. It always senses God's truth. When one actually leads a life of goodness, the living spirit elements engage in proper give and take with the vitality elements and are infused into his physical self to make it wholesome. Meaning, our psychological and physical health are enhanced. In fact, living for the sake of others is the only sure way to be well and happy.

The spirit self can attain perfection only during a person's earthly life. The spirit mind guides the spirit self as it grows in the soil of the physical self. The growth of the spirit self toward perfection progresses through the three orderly stages ordained by the Principle of Creation. A spirit in the formation stage of life is called a form spirit; in the growth stage, a life spirit; and in the completion stage, a divine spirit.

A spirit fully matures as a divine spirit when the person's spirit self and physical self unite through perfect give and take action centered on God and form the four-position foundation. A divine spirit can accurately feel and perceive every reality in the spirit world. As these spiritual realities resonate through the body and manifest themselves as physiological phenomena, they can be recognized through the five physical senses. People of a divine spirit, who thus resonate with the spirit world, build the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. When they shed their physical bodies, they will make a smooth transition into the Kingdom of Heaven in the spirit world. For this reason, the Kingdom of Heaven in heaven will be realized only after the Kingdom of Heaven on earth has been established.

We can develop sensibilities of our spirit only through the physical self

All the sensibilities of a spirit are cultivated through the reciprocal relationship with the physical self during earthly life. Therefore, only when a person reaches perfection and is totally immersed in the love of God while on earth can he fully delight in the love of God as a spirit after his death. All the qualities of the spirit self are developed while it abides in the physical self: Sinful conduct during earthly life aggravates evil and ugliness in the spirit of a fallen person, while the redemption of sins granted during earthly life opens the way for his spirit to become good. 

Humans are created so that once they reach perfection they will fully breathe the love of God. Those who committed sinful deeds while on earth become crippled spirits who are incapable of fully breathing in the love of God. They find it agonizing to stand before God, the center of true love. Of their own will, they choose to dwell in hell, far removed from the love of God.



Physical Mind
The physical self consists of the dual characteristics of the physical mind (subject partner) and the physical body (object partner). The physical mind directs the physical body to maintain the functions necessary for its survival, protection and reproduction. Instinct, for example, is an aspect of an animal's physical mind. For the physical self to grow in good health, it must have proper nourishment. It must absorb air and sunlight, which are intangible, yang types of nourishment, and must eat and drink food and water, which are tangible, yin types of nourishment. The body has give and take with this nourishment through its digestive and circulatory systems.

Good or evil in the conduct of the physical self is the main determinant of whether the spirit self becomes good or evil. This is because the physical self provides a certain element, which we call the vitality element, to the spirit self. In our everyday experience, our mind rejoices when our physical self performs good deeds but feels anxiety after evil conduct. This is because vitality elements, which can be good or evil according to the deeds of the physical self, are infused into our spirit self.


Heart
The key to God's first blessing is the perfection of individual character and heart. An individual's mind and body are discrete projections and object partners of God's dual characteristics. In order for an individual to perfect his character, he must form a four position foundation within himself whereby his mind and body become one through give and take action with God as their center. Such individuals become the temples of God,^{15(I Cor. 3:16)} achieve complete oneness with Him,^{16(John 14:20)}  and acquire a divine nature.
They experience the Heart of God as if it were their own. Hence, they understand His Will and live fully attuned to it. When a person abides in the state of individual perfection, he lives as a substantial object partner to his mind. Because the center of his mind is God, he also lives as a substantial object partner to God. Both the mind and God rejoice as they experience their internal nature and external form through the stimulation which their object partners give them. Accordingly, when people realize God's first blessing, they become God's beloved who inspires Him with joy. Sharing all the feelings of God as their own, they would never commit any sinful acts that would cause God grief. This means they would never fall. 


Human Mind
The human mind has three faculties: emotion, intellect and will. The human body acts in response to the commands of the mind. When the body responds to the mind's emotion, intellect and will, its actions pursue the values of beauty, truth and goodness respectively. God is the subject partner to the human mind; hence, He is also the subject partner to human emotion, intellect and will. Desiring to realize his original value, a person responds to the perfect emotion, perfect intellect and perfect will of God through his mind, and acts accordingly through his body. Thus, he manifests the values of original beauty, original truth and original goodness. 

Outer and Inner Four-Position Base

The Outer Developmental Four-Position Base: This base produces a new body through give-and-receive action between the Original Sungsang and the Original Hyungsang centering on the Purpose of Creation. In this case, the Sungsang is the same as the Logos produced as a new body through the inner give-and-receive action. The formation of a new body through give-and-receive action between the Original Sungsang and the Original Hyungsang relates to the creation of all things. "Development" here refers to the emergence of a new body through give-and-receive action.

Moon is the master of that, being the most persecuted religious leader in our recent history, yet being able to transform anger into love, even in the hearts of his enemies.

Anger. It can not only ruin our health and our spirits, it destroys our relationships. New book of the great spiritual teacher and author of Living Buddha, Living Christ provides real help for transforming the negative force of anger into a positive and useful energy, bringing harmony and healing to all aspects of our lives.

Anger can be one of the most frustrating emotions, carrying us headlong into separation and dismay. Vietnamese monk and world teacher Thich Nhat Hanh tackles this most difficult of emotions in his book, "Anger". Here I would like to make a simple comparison with the Principle way of dealing with that problem.

All human problems, explains Divine Principle, emanate from ignorance. Ignorance about our internal world and purpose of life, as well as the external universe and it's laws.

How ignorance lead us to anger
So how ignorance will lead us to anger? When we don't know someone we are afraid, have prejudices and judge others wrongly. Rev. Moon gives a simple example. If something is part of us we don't feel it strange, even if that's a bad smell. Anger and hatred among different religions, races and cultures was based on not knowing and understanding the other side.

Rev. Moon became the "Champion of Inter-religious reconciliation" by one simple method, that no one used in the past. He simply brought representatives from all faith to work heart to heart for a common cause. For most, simply the experience of getting to know the other as human beings, observing their sincerity in loving God, brought to a fundamental change in attitude.

This experience was for many stronger then a revelation. From life of anger and resentment against others, they now determined to support Rev. Moon and work for peace and reconciliation together with their brothers and sisters of other faith and religion.

Why past efforts failed
In the past attempts were made to settle these resentments through theological dialogues and tolerance. But such tolerance is like a "Cold War". Such efforts could not bring the culture of love. Instead, more walls and barriers were build between the different parties; be it religions, or different struggling nations.

At the same time, each falsely presumed, that they have to first love themselves, rather then, as Rev. Moon teaches, "forget yourself and live for the sake of others". They could never understand God as a "Loving Parent" as Sun Myung Moon did. In his words, "God is a Parent for all humankind," not just to particular sect or religion.

"God, the Creator of all things under the sun, is the true parent of all humanity. He is not a parent existing only for a certain religion, a certain race, or the residents of a certain region. You may call Him by any name, be it Jehovah, Allah, or any other. He certainly exists, lives as the true parent of all people." Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Rev. Moon revealed, with his life and teachings, yet another vital secret to peace. Never count how much you have invested for others, just "give, forget that you have given and give again." This principle is the key to unconditional love and happiness.

If you count how much you have given, your heart is never free to experience happiness even if others return to you, since you already presume they are obligated. But when we "give and forget", our hearts are free to experience the utmost happiness even from the smallest return.

"True love is to give and give and give; to forget that you have given, and give again." Rev. Sun Myung Moon

This principle is obvious, if we observe the relationship of a mother and a small baby. The mother can toil day and night tirelessly, yet the simple smile of her child will make her feel enormous joy.

Rev. Moon's teachings really bring a revolution in understanding (overcoming ignorance) and a "Revolution of Heart and Conscience". Imagine what would have happened if the world greatest religions; Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism, could practice this kind of serving love towards each other. All barriers and hatred would have be gone long ago. It's only a matter of time for the world to hear, understand and be transformed.

Why Buddhism and no other religion could bring that revolution of heart for thousands of years. Even if we read Thich Nhat Hanh we can distinguish some fundamental gaps in understanding. First, most religious teachings told us to be concerned about ourselves, love ourselves first; yet, this is absolute reversal of the universal principles. We exist for others and our value and happiness depend on how much we can live for others, as Rev. Moon teaches.

Second, religions were concerned mostly with the individual problem and even often renounced married life. Yet, Divine Principle explains that personal growth and development of heart and conscience comes in the family. Family is the school of love and the foundation for healthy society.

Because of their inability to solve from the root human and social problems, religions tended to excuse the existence of evil as immanent part of our life, or simple expect that one day God will solve this problem instead of us. Yet, Divine Principle explains clearly that this is our responsibility and all human and social problems can be solved once we established true, loving and blessed families. These ideals are expressed in the International and Interreligious marriages Rev. Moon had held for millions of couples.

The man who ended Communism, Rev. Moon, is now dedicated to unite the efforts of religions, scientists, politicians and governments and bring a World of lasting Peace and Prosperity. Reed more
